  1. Fetching Data: If the requested file exists, the server retrieves it from storage. If it requires processing (e.g., in dynamic websites), the server communicates with databases or applications. 

  1. Sending the Response: The web server sends the requested content back to the user's browser, which then renders the page for viewing. 

Web servers also handle security, load balancing, and caching to optimize performance. Popular web servers include Apache, Nginx, and Microsoft IIS, each offering different features and scalability options.
